Our hotel is located near this important venue for events and concerts on Lake Garda. The Amphitheatre of the Vittoriale in Gardone Riviera, Italy, is part of Gabriele D'Annunzio residence. It is modelled on the famous Wagner theatre in Bayreuth, since D’Annunzio wanted to create a large and majestic theatrical space for his plays or other stage performances, “a marble basin under the stars", as he called it. The theatre is located in a precise panoramic point of the park from which you can admire Sirmione peninsula, Garda Island, Monte Baldo and Rocca di Manerba.
The construction of the Vittoriale Theatre started in 1931 directed by architect Gian Carlo Maroni. D'Annunzio sent him to Pompeii in order to get inspired for the construction of this unique Lake Garda amphitheatre. Actual works started between 1934 and 1935 and were interrupted at the beginning of World War II and the poet’s death.
In 1952 architects Mario Moretti and Italo Maroni, brother of Gian Carlo, continue the works of the Vittoriale Amphitheatre. On August 8, 1953 the iconic theatre on Lake Garda has been inaugurated with a concert by the Orchestra Teatro alla Scala, conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini. Today the Vittoriale hosts numerous events and concerts on Lake Garda for up to 1500 spectators.
