Villa Sofia: Vittoriale :

The Italian Vittoriale monumental citadel was built on Lake Garda by the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio together with architect Giancarlo Maroni from 1921 to 1938.

The Vittoriale is,  a complex of buildings, streets, squares, theaters, gardens, and waterways. Built in memory of his extraordinary life and heroic deeds of  Italians during the Great War.

Among the Mediterranean olive trees and slender cypresses are the memorabilia business used during the daring MAS Buccari Escapade, SVA plane flight to Vienna, until the bow of the intersection Puglia reassembled on a rocky outcrop in the middle of the park.

At its highest point stands the Vittoriale panoramic view of the mausoleum, a monument to war dead, here are where the Captain Gabriele d'Annunzio and some of the legionaries who participated in the company of River, are buried.

In the gardens, hidden among the trunks of a grove of magnoglie conceal the column shafts and seats dell'Arengo; descending terraces meet the old and the lemon orchard.

The outdoor theatre is looming with a beautiful background view of the blue lake. Inspired by models of antiquity, can seat up to 1,500 people and today during the  Summer holds theatrical and musical events.

The Foundation of Italian Vittoriale is open to the public all year round and is visited by about 180,000 people a year.
